Yves Klein & Monochrome Bleu
Yves Klein is a Nouveau Realisme artists that mostly known for its signature monochrome blue color. Klein’s artistic aspect represents de-materiality, spirituality and transcendence. He is based on painstaking attempts to analyses the ways in which the artist’s self-processed adherence to an array of religious beliefs and philosophical systems shaped his art work and the constellations around it. Klein’s artistic practice — his “art” and “life” — was based on constantly trying. He reminded the audience as a “romantic” and “visionary” artist that art doesn’t necessarily have to be “rational” but it can be hermetic and irrational.
Nouveau Réalisme, an art movement aims to dismantle and de-materialize the unique and integral work of art and expand it in order of publicity, display, performance, participation, architecture, the cinematic, linguistic, and etc.
Why Monochrome Blue ?
Monochrome blue represents the immaterial, void and the elements of extra-dimensionality. What do art historians mean by immaterial or de-materiality ? — It was a reference to a fetishized aura emitted by the commodity object.
Monochrome bleu, IKB 280, 1957
In this artwork, inspiration from Giotto is visible through the use of blue color; an attribute to previous art & artist. The use of color and aura: The idea of Monochrome Blue color is the abstraction, the depth of the color allows the audience to get lost in the aura of the color. Objectivizaiton of art through color blue, inspiration from Zen culture is seen. The abstraction is selling sensibility that is not even visible, complete de-materilization of the art. Power for people to perceive in his presence.
Non-object duality nor in the space nor induction help to move from monochrome.
Installation of the monochromatic proposals, it seems totally equal, but represents different values. They have transcendent aspect, the paradox. Decomposing the idea of the value itself. Seems to be series but new in value, changes the autonomy and function.
Klein uses the spatial environment to help the unity of all the monochrome bleu artworks. The idea of spatial environment brought him to ultimate dissolution. All artworks are linked to each other without in contact in the empty environment and creates a connection among them to reflect the purpose of artist and how the spatial environment affects the embracement of the art by the viewer.
