Greetings, dear readers!
Today, I wanted to share with you five captivating books that have enraptured me as an Art Aficionado. I’ve delved into the English editions of these books, finding them both enlightening and enriching. Without further ado, let’s explore my top 5 recommendations, which I believe offer accessible insights into the world of art, suitable for anyone keen to expand their knowledge in the field.
ART~FACTS: Fascinating facts about art, artist and the art world
“Art Facts” serves as a beginner’s guide to comprehending and interpreting the art world. Every aspiring artist or individual intrigued by art should possess this handbook. It elucidates fundamental concepts and art knowledge through various schemes and graphics, appealing to both visual and textual learners.
Upon perusing this book, one will undoubtedly attain a broader perspective on the arts. However, I must caution that individuals possessing an average to high level of knowledge in the arts may find this book somewhat tedious.
2. B is for Bauhaus by Deyan Sudjic
Let me be honest, the first thing intrigued me about this book was the cover design. The only reason perhaps I set my hand on it but i am thankful I did (Let’s remember it’s important not to judge a book by its cover, even sometimes we do).
About the book, the concept of the book is both appealing and interesting. I personaly love books that inspired by dictionaries. From letter A to Z it interpret’s one concept that starts with the particular letter and provides the author’s views on modern art. This book requires a deeper knowledge on the art’s especially with the names he is attributing and criticising. Although definitely a must read, this book provided me with distinct point of view about field of art that I have approached with my blinders on.
3. The Books That Shaped Art History from Gombrich and Greenberg to Alpers and Krauss
This book is quite challenging, demanding considerable attention due to its rich detail and array of personalities. It’s divided into sections that serve as a roadmap, guiding readers through the diverse texts that have shaped the trajectory of art history. Each section is dedicated to a distinct written text from the 20th century, and these texts are invaluable for students of art history like myself. They illuminate the significance of manifestos and other written works in shaping the narrative of art history.
4. Why are We “Artists” ? 100 World Art Manifestos Selected by Jessica Lack
As I immersed myself in studying the art movements of the 20th century, I encountered written texts detailing the avant-garde movements. Yet, battling with the dense manifestos proved challenging, especially in comprehending the interdisciplinary fusion of art and literature. In search of clarity, I turned to a remarkable book that proved to be a guiding light. Within its pages, I found a treasure trove: 100 manifestos from across the globe, offering profound insights into the evolution of art. Exploring these manifestos not only deepened my understanding but also introduced me to a plethora of new artists.
5. Art for Radical Ecologies (manifesto) by Institute of Radical Imagination
I’ve just begun reading this book, and I must say, it’s truly fascinating. It’s part of a series called IRI and serves as a manifesto, interpreting the role of art in climate and ecological justice through 16 articles. I became interested in reading this book because of the ongoing discourse regarding the climate activists’ passionate stance on artworks and the art world.
