Beato Angelico
Palazzo Strozzi, Florence
Museo di San Marco

Fra Angelico, a key artist of the 15th century and Renaissance master, is known for his bright colors and gentle designs. Along with artists like Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, Lorenzo Ghiberti, and Michelozzo, he shaped the art of his time. His skill with color gave his paintings a lively and spiritual feel, making them lasting works of art.
I enjoy visiting Palazzo Strozzi’s exhibitions; they are among the best institutions that give art its true value. Even though I have memorized the entire exhibition space by now, I love how innovative they are in transforming the space to fit the soul of each exhibition. However, if I were to rank Palazzo Strozzi exhibitions from least to best, I would place this one in fourth place.
I loved that the exhibition was divided into two parts, with two museums featuring Beato Angelico’s artworks. This setup allows you to experience the city by walking from one location to another, and at the same time, you get to see more than one art institution. Although the other part of the exhibition was at Museo di San Marco, it was highly crowded and attracted a lot of attention, resulting in long queues. Compared to Palazzo Strozzi’s welcoming space, this was quite a burden.
From my personal experience, I did not have the chance to enter Museo di San Marco due to the long lines and hours spent under the sun. I was informed that the museum only allowed visitors until a certain hour, after which entry was closed. Instead of waiting another hour in line, I decided to visit the next-door Toulouse-Lautrec exhibition, which turned out to be the smartest decision I made that day.
