Dipingere Senza Regole - Helen Frankenthaler
Painting Without Rules by Helen Frankenthaler is an exhibition held in Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, Italy. From 27 September 2024 to 26 January 2025.
As one of the most prominent artists of the twentieth century, Helen Frakenthaler surveys her artistic style in dialogue with selected works by her contemporaries such as Jackson Pollock, Morris Louis, Kenneth Noland, Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko, David Smith, Anthony Caro and Anne Truitt.
The exhibition demonstrates Frakenthaler’s life and works of art in connection with her friendships, influences and affinities which creates more engagement with the viewer. When I was touring the exhibition, I discovered that using attributions to other artists allows us to better interact with the artist. I have felt what Helen Frakenthaler means by the first rule of the painting is there is no rule to start with, the experimentation with the colors and canvas surface can be detected through the exhibition.
She embraced the Abstract Expressionism and Color Field Painting as a form of freedom. She created her own journey with color, form and space that allows her to explore more and reflect her imagination.
